Pilmico Ramps Up Livelihood for Women’s Group in Taguig
An all women’s group from Taguig – Sewers for Equity and Welfare Producers Cooperative received livelihood assistance from Pilmico Foods Corporation and Aboitiz Foundation Inc. via the CSR initiative called, “The Life Sacks” project.
Pilmico flour and feeds sacks remain relatively unused after usage and eventually end up in dumpsters. However, a few end up being sold for various packaging uses. Pilmico uses over 30,000 eco bags in company activities related to selling, marketing, CSR and HR purposes.
The “Life Sacks Project”, aims to create a sustainable value chain of collection, recycling and effective deployment of used Pilmico sacks by tapping local sewing groups in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to transform used sacks into recyclable bags resulting in additional sources of income for the beneficiary sewing groups and huge savings for Pilmico.
Cristeta Estabillo, the Chairperson of the sewers cooperative said:
Nagpapasalamat kami sa Pilmico at Aboitiz Foundation na napili niyo ang aming coop para maging beneficiary. Malaking blessing ang mabigyan ng mga machine na magagamit namin para sa livelihood at siguradong malaking tulong ito para sa aming mga kababaihan na miyembro ng coop at sa mga pamilya din namin.
The project was launched on 15 April at the North Signal Covered Court, Brgy., North Signal, Taguig City. The event was attended by members of Pilmico Taskforce Responsibility, key executives from Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and representatives from the local government of Taguig.
