Pilmico provides immediate care for abandoned animals amid Taal eruption
The series of eruptions of Taal Volcano has sparked a sense of community among different individuals, groups, and both public and private organizations. Everyone is pitching in to help out any way they can to those affected. For Pilmico, care and assistance came in the form of helping out abandoned animals and livestock in the area.
Organized by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Batangas, Pilmico, together with other animal welfare and private organizations, local vets, and the media, aided the rescue and outreach operations for the animals left out during the evacuation last January 16, 2020.
The PVO estimated that around 1,817 swine heads and 6,512 poultry animals needed immediate care after the lockdown and evacuation made it difficult for owners to return to their livestock for Balete alone. Doctor George Miranda of Pilmico Animal Health and one of our Animal Production Specialists in the area provided the technical support for the animal first aid. Alongside this, Pilmico donated 42 bags of swine feeds, 10 bags of poultry feeds, multivitamins, anti-stress meds, and antibiotics for the animals affected.
Four barangays were served and the remaining feeds and meds that weren’t used will be reserved for another run of rescue and outreach ops to other areas in Batangas.
Pilmico is closely working with the local PVO in case further assistance is needed.
