Leading Flour Mill Company Brings Sustainable Livelihood to Laguna
Pilmico, a food subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. brought to Laguna on Tuesday livelihood assistance through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program – the Mahalin Pagkaing Atin’s Food and Livelihood Expo at the Laguna Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz, this province. The CSR program aims to promote sustainable entrepreneurship through promotion of local produce and instill a “pride of product, pride of place” mindset for both farmers and local consumers, thus enabling operators to maximize profit without passing through middlemen. Given out during the event were livelihood packages including piglets, egg machines and bakery kits which would enable local farmers to sustain their livelihoods through an easy-to-manage business with a quick return on investment, despite the threats of poverty, tragedy or conflict.
The event, attended by around 400 particpants from the province of Laguna and nearby provinces served as a venue for farmers and would-be-entrepreneurs to acquire knowledge and information on animal husbandry and nutrition, basic and advanced baking demos as well as micro-financing and branding. Participants were also treated to a cooking demos by Mahalin Pagkaing Atin Ambassador, chef Boy Logro. According to Anna Gail Carreon, Pilmico’s corporate communications & media relations supervisor, the company would continue to go around the country to be Partners for Growth.
