Capiz folks receive livestock farming skills training

22 April, 2015, Roxas City, CAPIZ – Livestock farmers in Capiz learn the benefits of sustainable backyard farming and the basics of animal husbandry and nutrition, at the Pilmico Mahalin Pagkaing Atin (MPA) forum expo held at the Capiz State University, Roxas City today.

More than 700 participants attended the event which is a celebration of rebuilding the lives of those affected by Yolanda in the Visayas, while championing a livelihood that is proven viable and sustainable for backyard poultry farmers and swine breeders.

MPA is a quick impact project with a quick return on investment that aims to elevate the sense of pride of communities for their homegrown produce.

“It is a sure-fire formula for small time local backyard farmers to recover business losses and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the said calamity,” said Pilmico President and CEO Sabin Aboitiz.

In Capiz, the Aboitiz food subsidiary initially assisted five families with piglets and egg machines to help recoup what they have lost. Yolanda reportedly destroyed almost 95% of the entire province.

Since last year, the company has been rolling-out MPA to areas that were adversely affected by conflict, poverty, and tragedy.
