Arnel of Iloilo: Retirement is Just the Beginning
“Ang disadvantage kapag army ka, kalahati ng katawan mo nasa hukay; delikado na nga ang trabaho, malayo pa sa pamilya.”
This is how Arnel described his life before retirement – living in constant danger. That’s why when he was nearing retirement age, he told himself he wanted to venture into something that will not take away too much time from his family and at the same time, will help his family financially. Arnel thought long and hard about what to do following his retirement. Through his friend, Arnel was introduced to the Manuel, Pilmico’s Animal Production Specialist (APS) in the area and discussed with him the benefits of farming. Consequently, his friend owns an egg machine and Arnel personally saw the potential in the business.
Following the discussion, Arnel decided to invest in two egg machines. Fast forward to three years after he purchased his first set of egg machines, Arnel now has 10 egg machines and is very happy with his small enterprise.
“Noong nagretire ako nakakuha ako ng pang-capital at sinubukan ko muna ang 2 set lang ng egg machine. Nakita ko na maganda ang income ko kaya paunti-unti kong dinagdagan. Bago ako ipakilala ng kaibigan ko sa Pilmico, wala talaga akong ideya kung ano ang egg machine. Sa tulong ni Manuel, ang APS ng Pilmico, natutunan ko ang tamang pag-alaga at pag-pakain ng manok. Bukod sa kita, yung kagandahan na naidulot sa akin ng sarili kong business ay yung araw-araw kasama mo ang pamilya mo; nakikita mo sila at sama-sama kayong nagtutulu- ngan.”
